High-pressure pumps are used in pressure booster systems to generate operating pressure and pump liquids to spraying devices, and they vary depending on use and manufacturer. The pump works by moving fluid in a cylinder, producing a force that pushes the fluid through a piston to create a flow. These pumps are used in commercial, industrial, and residential settings, and are common in machines like refrigerators and washing machines.

Types of High-Pressure Pumps

There are various types of high-pressure pumps, including:

Centrifugal Pumps

A centrifugal pump transfers liquids through a pipe; once the fluid enters the pump, it gets into an impeller which slugs it away and changes its direction to increase pressure. Centrifugal pumps are vital in chemical industries, irrigation systems, oil refineries, and water treatment plants. However, you must select the right one to get the best results.

Container Pumps

A container pump is designed to carry dangerous liquids in and out of highly flammable or toxic areas. These pumps are convenient for various industries, including textile, hospitals, food, and electronics. They are made of high-quality stainless steel and are well tested to stand years of use. Additionally, they can be easily cleaned and taken care of compared to other types of high-pressure pumps.

Drum Pumps

A drum pump is versatile and is used to process cosmetics, chemicals, and perfumes. The pump does not lose any fluid, making it suitable for high-quality liquids that cannot be wasted. The pump performs well in high-stress applications and can also be used for high-flammable fluids. It is made from stainless steel, aluminum alloy, or polypropylene, and can also be used in the food industry.

Flush Pump Manifolds

Flush pumps are made of brass or stainless steel and are used for moderate lubricity liquids and those with high temperatures. They come with a ported duct manifold that allows external flush fluids to flow between the high and low-pressure seals. It has several benefits like containment of pumped fluids, guaranteed safety, and minimal maintenance.

Gearbox Pumps

Gearbox pumps are specially designed for heavy-duty pressure washers and petrol engines since they offer a simple, direct, and compact mount to the petrol engine. The pump is directly attached to several plunger pumps; hence no need to select, install, or adjust pulleys and belts.

The Bottom Line

Many high-pressure pumps are suitable for multiple applications. Some share similarities while others are different, hence the need to research to figure out which one fits your needs. Some factors to consider when purchasing one include flowrate, inlet size, full head and pressure, pump quality, and the type of fluid being pumped.
