If you have an architecture or engineering license this may qualify you automatically in many states.

Most classes will last a week or less and will help you learn the responsibility and roles of being an asbestos inspector. It will also show you how to collect samples of potential asbestos to be tested. Once the class is completed you will take an exam that you must pass to become certified. If you pass, you will receive the certification. 

Getting certified will take time but it is well worth it if you want to get into this business.
